A Clash of KingsEdit
Lord William does not attend the war council at Riverrun, possibly because he is hiding in his castle from the forces of House Lannister. He does, however, lead a group out of Maidenpool to hunt the great wolf pack under gathering under Nymeria, but they are beaten back and all the dogs of Lord Mooton are killed.
A Storm of SwordsEdit
Lord Randyll Tarly marches his troops on Maidenpool after winning the Battle of Duskendale. He takes the castle and locks Lord William in a tower cell for his treachery. King Tommen I Baratheon writes a pardon for Lord William, which returns House Mooton to the King's Peace.
A Feast for CrowsEdit
Brienne of Tarth witnesses Lord William on stage with Lady Randyll whilst visiting Maidenpool looking for Sansa Stark. She is told that he is too cowardly to stand up to Randyll, who has forced him into agreeing to a betrothal between Dickon Tarly and William's daughter Eleanor Mooton.
