A Game of ThronesEdit
Utherydes Wayn is sent by Hoster to welcome his daughter, Lady Catelyn Stark, back to Riverrun after the outbreak of the War of the Five Kings. He is instructed to escort her to see her father as soon as she arrives. Catelyn remembers Utherydes from her childhood, commenting on how old and grey he had become, and showing some surprise at this.
A Clash of KingsEdit
Utherydes once again welcomes Catelyn to Riverrun, this time with her brother Edmure, after she returns from her trip as an envoy of Robb Stark to Renly Baratheon. He suggests a possible alliance with Lord Stannis Baratheon, but Catelyn dodges this as she thinks he was complicit in his brother's death. He then informs her that Robb intended for her to travel t0 the Twins to select his bride from the possibilities presented by Lord Walder Frey. After this he shows her the bones of Eddard Stark that had been returned by Tyrion Lannister. It is Utherydes who sends Hallis Mollen back to Winterfell with the bones in tow.
A Storm of swordsEdit
Utherydes accompanies Ser Desmond Grell to confront Catelyn after she releases Ser Jaime Lannister from his prison cell. He expresses remorse over the death of Bran Stark and Rickon Stark, but also suggests that these deaths were not justification for freeing the Kingslayer. He suggests that she be confined to her chambers until Robb returns, but is accepting when she asks to be instead allowed to stay with her father. Catelyn thinks that this talk pains Utherydes as he has ad eyes when punishing her.
Utherydes tells Maester Vyman that there as never been any person named Tansy employed at Riverrun. Catelyn asked because it was the last word her father spoke, and she believed that it may have been the name of an old lover.
