Tumbleton is a town of The Reach and serves as the ancestral seat of House Footly. A small castle overlooks the town and holds a garrison of forty men.

Location[]

Tumbleton is in the northeast of the Reach, near its border with The Crownlands. It is fifty leagues southwest of King's Landing, to the northeast of Bitterbridge and the north of Grassy Vale. The Mander river has its source in the hills nearby to the town.

History[]

Two battles would be fought at Tumbleton during the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The First Battle of Tumbleton saw the legendary Two Betrayers, Hugh Hammer and Ulf White, betray their black allies. The betrayer's dragons, Vermithor and Silverwing, were released upon the town and the garrison of Lord Footly surrendered but was killed anyway. The green encampment set up outside the city and helped to destroy it.

The town was further damaged during the Second Battle of Tumbleton, where three dragons, Vermithor, Tessarion and Seasmoke fought above the city. All three dragons ended up killed, along with Hugh Hammer. The city was burned to ashes according to Archmaester Gildayn, yet it had been rebuilt by the time of King Robert Baratheon, and House Footly survived the civil war.
