Torrhen Stark was the last King in the North. When Aegon the Conqueror brough his army north, Torrhen called up his bannerman to meet them. When he saw the size of the army, swelled by the ranks of their conquered foes and Aegon's three dragons, he knew that his army couldn't win. Rather than watching his people suffer and die fiery deaths on the battlefield, Torrhen bent the knee to Aegon the Conquerer. Aegon named him Lord Paramont of the North. However, Torrhen would forever after be known as "The King Who Knelt".
