Stafford was one of the Lannisters seized by Ellyn Reyne, after Ser Tywin Lannister arrested her husband, Lord Walderan Tarbeck. Tywin suggested sending Walderan back to Tarbeck Hall in three pieces, but Tytos Lannister, Stafford's uncle, arranged for the exchange of hostages at Castamere. Ser Kevan Lannister was sent to retrieve the Lannister hostages.
A Clash of Kings Edit
After the defeat of Ser Jaime Lannister at the Battle of the Camps, Stafford is tasked with assembling another Lannister force near to Lannisport. It took a long time to train, as it was mostly made up of inexperienced men.
Stafford did not post sentries, as the Golden Tooth, which holds the entrance to the Westerlands was in Lannister hands. The Stark army attacked through a mountain pass, and set upon Stafford's force, and routed them. Stafford himself was killed by Lord Rickard Karstark, whilst trying to reach his horse.
Stafford's more capable son, Ser Daven Lannister, then took command of his father's army. He swore revenge on Rickard Karstark, and pledged never to cut his hair until he had it.
