Lord Qarlton Chelsted was the head of House Chelsted, and served as Master of Coin and Hand of the King to King Aerys II Targaryen. He was executed by Aerys for questioning the king on military decisions.
Appearance and Character Edit
Ser Jaime Lannister thinks of Qarlton as a craven, except for when he eventually stood up to Aerys.
He attended the Tourney of Harrenhal, believing that Prince Rhaegar Targaryen was using it as a way of garnering support from the commons and the lords for his cause. Qarlton whispered in the ear of Aerys. He had originally suggested that Aerys forbid the tourney.
Qarlton originally served Aerys as Master of Coin, but was granted the post of Hand of the King after the exile of Jon Connington, his predecessor in the post. He became suspicious of the pyromancers Rossart, Garigus and Belis. When he discovered about Aerys' wildfire plot he begged for the king not to go through, even standing down as hand when his request was refused. Aerys had him dipped in wildfire and burned alive.
