Orkmont is one of the islands that make up the archipelgo known as the Iron Islands.
Location[]
Orkmont is centrally located, with Blacktyde to the north, Harlaw to the southeast, Pyke to the south, and Old Wyk and Great Wyk to the east.
Economy[]
Orkmont is rugged and mountainous, making it rich in ore. It was once covered in timber, but that was exhausted by the Ironborn, with all of it going towards the construction of longships.
Houses[]
Orkmont is the seat of House Orkwood and House Tawney. The island also has a cadet branch of House Goodbrother, known as House Goodbrother of Orkmont. The extinct House Greyiron and House Hoare, both of whom ruled the Iron Islands, had their seat on the island of Orkmont.
History[]
Urras Greyiron, the Salt king of Orkmont, was crowned the first ever King of the Iron Islands.
During the rule of House Hoare over the Iron Islands, merchants and traders from Orkmont were known to stop at Lannisport, Oldtown, and the Free Cities.
Following the death of Harren Hoare and the Burning of Harrenhal, an ironman from Orkmont declared themselves the new king. He was, however, killed during the succession squabble.
During the Greyjoy Rebellion, Orkmont was conquered by the forces of King Robert I Baratheon.
