Old Wyk is one of the islands that make up the archipelago known as the Iron Islands.

Location[]

Old Wyk is to the east of Great Wyk, and to the west of Orkmont and Blacktyde.

History[]

The Ironborn consider Old Wyk to be the holiest of all the Iron Islands. The legendary Grey King slew the sea dragon, Nagga, upon its shores. It is on Old Wyk where the First Men discovered the Seastone Chair, which became the throne of all subsequent Kings of the Iron Islands. The Grey King's Hall became the location where all Kingsmoots would be held, beginning with the crowning of Urras Greyiron by Galon Whitestaff. His son, Erich I Greyiron, then tried to claim the title without a kingsmoot, but was opposed and renounced his claim, with the Kingsmoot then electing Old Wyk's Rock King, Regnar Drumm.

Ragged Ralf was a legendary Ironborn warrior, who supposedly came from the island of Old Wyk.

King Harrag Hoare included longships from Old Wyk when he declared his invasion of the North on King Theon Stark.

The selection of High Kings through the Kingsmoots ended when Urron Greyiron gathered all his rivals on Old Wyk and had them slaughtered amongst Nagga's ribs. The rock and salt kings of Old Wyk were then reduced to be lords sworn to hereditary kings.

When a sept was built on Old Wyk, during the reign of King Horgan Hoare, it was burned to the ground by followers of the Drowned God. The septon was killed and the congregation drowned. In response, Horgan had the Drowned Men massacred.

After the end of the War of Conquest, the Priest-King Lodos of Old Wyk briefly opposed King Aegon I Targaryen.

Succession battles occured on Old Wyk and Pyke after the death of Lord Dalton Greyjoy.

Ser Barristan Selmy led the attack on Old Wyk during the failed Greyjoy Rebellion.
