Margaery Tyrell is from Highgarden, daughter of Mace Tyrell and sister to Loras Tyrell of the Kingsguard. She is an intelligent, shrewd, and political savvy young woman thanks to her cunning grandmother, Lady Olenna Redwyne.

She married Renly Baratheon at the start of the War of the Five Kings, even though she knows that he is Loras' lover. After he died, she and her family joined forces with the Lannisters and the Iron Throne. In A Storm of Swords, she married Joffrey Baratheon, who died during their wedding feast. She then married his younger brother Tommen, who became King of the Iron Throne when Joffrey died. In A Feast for Crows, Margaery was accused by Cersei Lannister of having an affair with many knights and lords and was imprisoned in King's Landing awaiting trial. In A Dance with Dragons , she was released due to the weak evidence against her and the large Tyrell army in King's Landing although she still awaits trial.
