Lord Lyonel Strong was a past Lord of Harrenhal and a head of House Strong. He served as Master of Laws and Hand of the King to King Viserys I Targaryen. He was the father of Ser Harwin Strong and Larys Strong as well as two unnamed daughters. He died within his castle when it set on fire.
Appearance and Character Edit
Lyonel was large and balding, which often caused him to be mistaken for a brute and a battler. He was often slow of speech. He was, in reality, an incredibly intelligent and well learned man, which saw him rise up in the world.
Lyonel earned six links of his maester's chain whilst studying at the CItadel, gaining an immense reputation for his knowledge of law. He was awarded Harrenhal during the rule of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, being named Master of Laws by King Viserys in 105 AC. He became Hand of the King 109 AC after Ser Otto Hightower vacated the position. He brought his sons Harwin and Larys with him to King's Landing.
Lyonel counseled Viserys to execute Prince Daemon Targaryen when allegations came out about the Prince taking the virginity of Viserys' eldest daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. A Septon named Eustace convinced Viserys to pardon Daemon, however, as he didn't want to succumb to the curse of kinslaying.
Lyonel and Harwin both died in a fire at Harrenhal. The fire was seen as an accident by some, but others thought that Larys and Harwin could have been murdered. Suspects included Daemon, Viserys, Lord Corlys Velaryon or Larys Strong, Lyonel's second son, who inherited Harrenhal upon his death.
