Lord Karyl Vance is the head of House Vance from Wayfarer's Rest and is Lord of Wayfarer's Rest. He is also an anointed knight. He has three daughters. He has a distinct wineskin birthmark on one side of his face and neck.
A Game of ThronesEdit
Karyl initially travels to the Golden Tooth with his father but, after news of the pillaging of Ser Gregor Clegane reaches the ears of Lord Hoster Tully, he is sent to King's Landing with Ser Marq Piper and Ser Raymun Darry to secure the aid of King Robert Baratheon. Instead they see the King's Hand Lord Eddard Stark, who sends Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr to bring Gregor to justice.
Ser Jaime Lannister smashes the Vance force at the Battle of the Golden Tooth, and kills Karyl's father in the process, making him the new Lord of Wayfarer's Rest. Karyl joins Marq Piper in raiding the House Lannister supply train as Jaime attempts to besiege Riverrun. Karyl and Marq then bring Lord Lyman Darry to the war council of Robb Stark, where he is declared King in the North.
A Feast for CrowsEdit
Karyl bends the knee after the Red Wedding, and is pardoned by King Tommen I Baratheon. He later rides to the siege of Riverrun, albeit reluctantly, to help House Frey and House Lannister. He represents the riverlords on the war council and provides Jaime with sound advice. After the siege is resolved he advises Jaime to head to Raventree Hall, as he knows that Lord Tytos Blackwood will never bend the knee to Lord Jonos Bracken.
