Jory has served his post at Winterfell for eight years. He is the only surviving son of Martyn Cassel, who died at the Tower of Joy. He attended the wedding ceremony for Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully and Catelyn remembers him tearing off her dress. He was not Captain of the Guards at this time.
A Game of ThronesEdit
Jory rides with eddard Stark to pass judgement on Gared, a deserter from the Night's Watch. he is present when Robb Stark finds the Direwolf Mother, being one of the first to reach the body. He claims that her being killed by a stag is an omen, as is the fact that her pups may have birthed after her death.
Jory is invited to attend a royal hunt hosted by Eddard for the imminent departure of himself and King Robert Baratheon. He then accompanies Eddard south to King's Landing. He is replaced by Hallis Mollen as Captain of the Guards.
Jory is one of the Stark men that joins the search for Arya Stark when she goes missing along the Kingsroad. He finds her, but Lannister men force him to take her before Robert and Queen Cersei Lannister before he can take the girl before her father. Jory stays with Arya, and holds her protectively.
