Initially, Jaqen is a young man with longish hair that is white on one side and red on the other. Although these features are quiet odd; but it was mentioned multiple times that women admired Jaqen's looks.
He speaks in the traditional accent of Lorath, and always in the third person; avoiding first and second grammatical persons.
Jaqen H'ghar is part of Yoren's group of recruits taken from King's Landing to join the Night's Watch in the North. He is taken from the Black Cells with two other prisoners; Rorge and Biter.
He tries to talk to Arya while being escorted to the wall, but she manages to avoid him, until they get attacked by ser Amory Lorch and his company. They kill Yoren and set the barn where Jaqen and his companions in on fire. But Arya gives Jaqen an axe to set them free before she escapes.
At Harrenhal, Arya meets Jaqen again when he becomes a member of the Lannister men. There, he tells her that he owes her three deaths in exchange for her saving him, Rorge, and Biter. She uses him to kill two of her enemies; Chiswyck and Weese. But for her third victim, she threatens to name Jaqen himself, unless he help her free Roose Bolton and the North Men so that they can take over Harrenhal.
once his promise is filled, Jaqen H'ghar reveals his faceless nature to her, gives her an old iron coin, and tells her that she can find him by giving the coin to any man from Braavos, and say the words valar morghulis. Then he announces that "Jaqen H'ghar" must die, and passes a hand over his face, making it magically reshape into a hook-nosed man with a gold tooth..
