King Jaehaerys II Targaryen was the sixteenth king of the Targaryen dynasty to sit on the Iron Throne of Westeros.

Early life[]

Jaehaerys was the second son of King Aegon V, after Prince Duncan, and did not anticipate becoming king. In 259 AL his father and brother were killed in the Tragedy of Summerhall, when the Targaryen summer palace burned to the ground in an attempt to hatch dragons. Jaehaerys became king under difficult circumstances.

Reign[]

Jaehaerys ruled for only three years, but was haunted by what he had seen at Summerhall, and never fully recovered. The realm continued to be run by the counsellors and advisors who had also advised his father, but by this time they had become old men, and his court was seen as stuffy and old-fashioned. Jaehaerys died in 262 AL and was succeded by his son, Aerys II.

Character and appearance[]

Jaehaerys was clever and amiable as a youngster, although he did not have a strong constitution. After his father and brother's death, he became withdrawn and haunted.

In appearance Jaehaerys was frail, with a pale complexion. He had shoulder-length hair and a silky beard. He wore his grandfather Maekar I's iron and gold crown.
