Forgive my Aegon the noise. He has less wits than a Crannogman
— Walder Frey

Aegon Frey, called Jinglebell, is the second son of Ser Stevron Frey, born to his second wife, Jeyne Lydden. He is a lackwit, and serves as the fool at the Twins.

Appearance and Character[]

Aegon is about fifty, thin, and stooped. He bears a strong resemblance to his grandfather, Lord Walder Frey, except with larger, friendlier eyes. He has long grey hair. He is a simple and harmless lackwit with a vacant expression.

History[]

Lord Frey claims to have hosted three kings at the Twins, but Aegon was not introduced to any of them.

Books[]

A Game of Thrones[]

Aegon is not in attendance when Catelyn Stark negotiates with his grandfather at the outbreak of the War of the Five Kings.

A Clash of Kings[]

Ser Stevron Frey, Aegon's father and the heir to the Twins, dies during the Battle of Oxcross. Big Walder and Little Walder discuss Aegon and his offspring when talking about the Frey succession, however Jinglebell is not known to have sired any children.

A Storm of Swords[]

When Robb Stark arrives at the Twins to apologise to Walder Frey about breaking his marriage pact, Jinglebell is present. Catelyn Stark considers this to be an intentional breach of courtesy. Regardless, Robb compliments the bravery of Aegon's father, Ser Stevron. When Walder introduces the ladies of the Twins to Robb, Joyeuse Erenford restrains Aegon from rising with them.

During the wedding feast of Lord Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, Aegon dances to the tune "Alysanne", and he covers his ears when Greatjon Umber sings "The Bear and the Maiden Fair", whilst the musicians play "Flowers of Spring". He sucks wine from his fingers, hops around during the bedding ceremony, and steals food from the plates of the guests.

After the killing begins during the Red Wedding, Aegon hides under a table. Catelyn seizes Jinglebell, however, and threatens to cut his throat if Walder does not spare Robb, who has been struck by arrows. Walder replies that he would readily trade a half-wit grandson for a son. After Roose Bolton stabs Robb, Catelyn cuts through Jinglebell's throat, killing him. Ser Raymund Frey then slits Catelyn's throat.

Before being hanged by the Brotherhood Without Banners, Ser Merrett Frey uses the murder of Jinglebell as justification for the Red Wedding.

A Dance with Dragons[]

At White Harbor, Ser Jared Frey claims that Robb was a warg, and changed into a wolf to tear out Jinglebell's throat.
