The Elder Brother is a septon and follower of the Faith of the Seven. He is in charge of the community on the Quiet Isle.
Appearance[]
He is a tall man with a large head. Brienne of Tarth notes that he has the look of a warrior about him. He has a veined, red nose, with a heavy jaw and a shaved head.
History[]
He was the third son of an unspecified family of knights, but couldn't get the girl he wanted to wed him as he had little to offer. He fought for House Targaryen at the Battle of the Trident, where he was knocked unconscious. The next thing he knew he was upon the Quiet Isle, naked and bruised. He became a monk there and spent the next ten years in silence.

Septon Meribald guides Brienne, Podrick Payne and Ser Hyle Hunt to the Quiet Isle, where they meet the Elder Brother. He tells Brienne of the Raid on Saltpans and the demise of Sandor Clegane. He also tells Brienne that Sandor was holding Arya Stark hostage, not Sansa Stark as she initially believed. This is what confirms to Brienne that Arya is still alive.
