Her body is discovered by Robb Stark and Jon Snow on the ride back from Gared's execution. Jon calls to their father, Lord Eddard Stark, to see what Robb has found. They find the dead direwolf surrounded by five direwolf pups. Hullen theorises that she gave birth to them after her death. When the party wants to kill the pups, Robb, Jon, and Bran disagree. Jon convinces their father to let them keep the pups, saying that these pups are an omen as the direwolf is the sigil of House Stark and there are five pups for the five legitimate children of House Stark. Shortly after, on the way back to Winterfell, Jon finds the sixth direwolf pup a little ways off from where the rest of the litter was found - a mute albino - who Jon claims for his own.
