Daenerys Martell was the youngest daughter of King Daeron II Targaryen. In 195 AL Daeron betrothed Daenerys to Prince Maron Martell, the ruler of Dorne, to formalise the entry of Dorne into the Seven Kingdoms. Daeron's bastard half-brother, Daemon Blackfyre, who loved Daenerys, was incensed by the union. It is sometimes cited as one of the triggers for the First Blackfyre Rebellion.
Daenerys and Maron were wed in 197 AL, after the rebellion had been crushed and Daemon Blackfyre slain. It is assumed that Daenerys and Maron are the direct ancestors of the current members of House Martell, including Prince Doran and his daughter, Princess Arianne.
Daenerys Targaryen may have been named for Daenerys Martell.
