Baelor II Targaryen, also known as Baelor Breakspear, was King Daeron II Targaryen's eldest son and heir. Baelor was also the elder brother of King Aerys I Targaryen, King Maekar I Targaryen, and Hand of the King during his father's reign.

Early Life

Baelor II Targaryen was born roughly around 169 AL, to Prince Daeron I Targaryen and Princess Myriah Martell. He was named after Daeron I's cousin Baelor the Blessed. Baelor, unlike his father Daeron, grew up to be a very martial man, renowned for his prowess with sword and lance.

During the first Blackfyre Rebellion, where his bastard uncle Daemon I Blackfyre chose to rebel against the crown, Baelor distinguished himself at the Battle of the Redgrass Field, leading a force of Dornishmen and Stormlanders to strike the final "hammerblow" against the rear of the rebel army. Baelor was later named Hand of the King by his father.

The Hedge Knight

During a tourney at Ashford Castle (having once jousted against Ser Duncan's late master, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, in a tourney at Storm's End), Prince Baelor vouches for Ser Duncan the Tall, who was nearly barred from competing. But after Duncan assaults Prince Baelor's nephew, Prince Aerion I Targaryen demands combat by a Trial of Seven. Baelor enters to become one of Duncan's seven champions. Prince Maekar Targaryen was furious at Baelor for this, but Baelor merely claimed that "This man protected the weak, as every knight must, let the gods determine if he was right or wrong". Baelor later enaged his brother Maekar in the trial of combat, who was defending his son. Though victorious, Baelor was mortally wounded by a blow from his brother's mace. He was survived by his two sons, Prince Valarr Targaryen and Prince Matarys Targaryen.

Character and appearance

Baelor, unlike his father and several of his other siblings, had a more Dornish appearance, having inherited his mother's dark hair. He wore his hair short and kept his jaw clean-shaven. Baelor was a skilled warrior and battle commander having fought and led armies in the Blackfyre Rebellion. He was considered to be the soul of chivalry and an effective Hand of the King.
