Aeron Greyjoy is a member of House Greyjoy and a member of the Drowned Men in service to the Drowned God. He is the younger brother of King Balon Greyjoy, and uncle to both Theon Greyjoy and Asha Greyjoy.
Aeron, youngest of the Greyjoy siblings, thought himself a man at only 16 years. Instead, he was a drunkard who wasted his time on simple merriment, and boasted of his drinking and urination prowess.
During his brother Balon's rebellion, the ship he was on sunk at the hands of Stannis Baratheon's fleet. Aeron was presumed lost at sea, but somehow survived and washed ashore. He was then taken to Lannisport in chains as a prisoner of war where he spent the remainder of the Greyjoy rebellion under Lannister lock and key. Upon his eventual return to the Iron Islands Aeron was a changed man. His near-death experience sparked a kind of spiritual awakening in him, causing him to dedicated his life to the Drowned God. Becoming a hermit on the beach, he began spreading the word of this god, and adopted a new name: Damphair. Dedicated holy followers, called Drowned Men, follow his every command, and he is greatly respected by the Ironborn people.
